About Vijayadashami or Dussehra Festival:


Dussehra is a popular festival celebrated by Hindus all over India, albeit with differentnames. It is also known as Vijayadashmi ('Vijay' meaning 'victory' and 'Dashmi meaning 'tenth day), as it is believed that it was on this day that Lord Rama killed the demon-king, Ravana and rescued his abducted wife - Sita. In other words, it signifies the triumph of good over evil. The legendary triumph is reenacted to the day. In the northern parts of India, huge effigies of Ravana, his giant brother Kumbhkarna and son Meghnath are placed in vast open grounds. Fireworks and crackers are placed inside the effigies.

About Shastra Puja or Astra Puja:

Shastra Puja is held on the ninth day of the Navratri Festival – this is the Mahanavami day during Durga Puja. The weapons (Sastra or Astra) used by Goddess Durga are worshipped onthis day. Shastra Puja 2011 date is October 5. Today, people worship the tools and objects that they use to earn a livelihood.

Shastra Puja is also known as Ayudha Puja in South India. A similar ritual held during DurgaPuja is the Astra Puja.

Puja is an important ritual in Hindu culture. It marks the beginning as well as the culmination of many customs.Pooja finds prominence in various Hindu festivals, such as Durga Pooja, Diwali, Dussehra etc.This is the reason why special arrangements are made for a pooja, so that the proceedings are carried on smoothly. Taking about the proceedings, aarti is an important part of pooja.

Arti is performed at the end of every puja. When the aarti is done, the devotees would sing an aarti song, especially dedicated to the diety. In this article, we have given Jaya Aadya Shakti Ma aarti, sung in praise of Ma Shakti.

One can watch Daily Aarti Darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi in the MH1 Shraddha TV channel. The Navratri is from September 28 2011 (Wednesday) to October 6 2011 (Thursday)


The morning Atka Arti is from around 6.15 am. The evening aarti is from live telecast from 7.20 pm. There will be Bhajan, lecture, Aarti, Kanya Puja.


MH One Shraddha is live telecasting daily the Aarti of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji. I am not aware of live streaming, webcast of the Aarti. But one can watch the Shradha Channel online

'Nav' means 'nine' and 'ratri' means 'night'. Thus, 'Navratri' means 'nine nights'. There are many legends attached to the conception of Navratri like all Indian festivals. All of them are related to Goddess Shakti (Hindu Mother Goddess) and her various forms.

It is one of the most celebrated festivals of Hindu calendar, it holds special significance for Gujratis and Bengalis and one can see it in the zeal and fervor of the people with which they indulge in the festive activities of the season.
