While the world has been anticipating the release of SRK’s Ra.One & been dying to know the shape of its fate, there are mixed views about how the movie has actually faired.
However, Shah Rukh Khan’s Ra.One did surprise the people when the official numbers came out. So, the film grossed Rs. 26.5 crores with a net of Rs. 18.5 crores on Wednesday 26th October making it the highest ever Diwali day collection in the history of Indian cinema especially in the last 14 years.
The second day collections on Thursday 27th October were even more impressive with the film raking in Rs. 36 crores gross with a net of Rs. 25.10 crores net making it the highest collection ever for a single day for an Indian film.
Ra.One’s Hindi version collected 16 crores on Friday and 14.15 crores on Saturday. The total collection on Sunday from Hindi version is reported to be 18 crores. So far, the only Hindi version of the movie has collected Rs 86.15 crores nett in 5 days. After adding Tamil & Telugu biz, Ra.One has overall collected approx Rs 95 crores nett from Wednesday to Sunday.
The industry is keeping close eyes on the box office report for Ra.One starting today which will decided the final fate of the movie.
What is to be seen is whether this is just another number game or this movie has managed to raise the bar for Indian Cinema with its vfx, marketing & a new story to tell. For now, looks like the crab mentality of Indian cinema is about to breakfree.
